How to turn the tables on 419 spam

The internet today faces a major threat from spam mails. Spammers are continuously devising new ways to harass internet users. While initially dedicated to advertising products or services, spammers have since shifted their focus. The use of 419 spam to dupe people of their money is just one of the many examples which demonstrate how spammers have changed their ways. If you have been receiving emails of late about someone wanting to transfer a huge amount of money to your account, this is more than likely to be a 419 spam mail. The 419 scam was initially used by Nigerian scammers at a local level. This fraud has now spread to the rest of the world. The number “419” belongs to the Nigerian law that deals with fraud.

These emails generally promise a big sum of money to the recipient. However, they say that you have to pay a small fee before you can obtain the money. The fee is seemingly small in comparison to the money that is promised. Many users have been conned by these scammers, and the disturbing part is that countless others are being fooled on a daily basis. People still fall for this scam despite the fact that information on the nature of such transactions is freely available online. The techniques used by scammers are only getting more sophisticated and the emails are getting better at convincing recipients about the huge sum of money that awaits them.

If you get a 419 mail in your inbox, the best course of action is to simply ignore it. The subject line of the email itself should indicate to you that it is a 419 scam. You should delete it without bothering to read whatever is written there. It is advised that you never reply to the spammer. This will only confirm your email address to the sender who will then bombard you with more emails. Another way you can counter the problem of spam is by investing in anti-spam software that will help you prevent the spread of spam. There are spam blocks and filters that are available and when installed will not allow the emails to reach your inbox.

419 scammers spam email addresses that they have gathered from the web. The spam bots can find your email addresses without any problem and will begin to spam your email as soon as possible. It is therefore never recommended that you never publish your email in an unsafe online location. While signing up for any online programs it is always advised that you use your secondary email address. This will keep your primary address free of spam.
