Indeed this is the way of the future, and for the time being there is little we can do to stop it. Believe it or not, the modern day phonebook can actually be used by spammers when attempting a target-based spam campaign directed at mobile devices such as cell phones. Obviously most mobile phone numbers aren’t listed in the phone book, but area codes are – and this is one of the methods that spammers use to send out spam based on your physical location. Additionally, online phonebooks work just as well, if not even better. Because the spammer doesn’t have to physically have a phonebook in his or her possession, they will have access to phone numbers all around the country and even the world for that matter.
