The future of spam

Will you always have to face the problem of spam? Will there ever be a time when you receive emails only from legitimate sources and not from unwanted ones? What lies ahead for spam? With the current flood of spam that has invaded the internet, it looks like it is here to stay for a long time. Though anti-spam technology is getting sophisticated by the day, the spammers too are developing ways and means to stay ahead of technology. Everyday there are millions of spam messages being sent out and the numbers are only increasing. Despite the best efforts to block spam it has only been proliferating.

However, it is believed that spam can be reduced and ultimately eliminated sometime in the distant future. First of all, people are becoming more educated about spam. Therefore, users are deleting scam emails instead of hearing them out. While people used to send money to companies fond of spamming, these days almost every internet user is able to distinguish a spam email from a legitimate email. Apart from this, more and more people have begun to harness the power of applications specifically designed for preventing and removing spam. There are firewalls, spam filters, anti virus applications available to help you protect your computer. Companies too have become stringent in controlling spam.

Geographical regions known to be home to most spammers (such as the US, Russia and China) have brought out anti-spam laws wherein spammers are held accountable for their actions. There have also been arrests and prison terms issued to the spammers. These are signs that governments are becoming increasingly concerned with the problem and are finding the need to intervene. Users can also pitch in by reporting spam instead of simply deleting spam emails. This way, they will be saving other users as well from being attacked by the spammers.

The future of spam is dim. It might take some time before everybody unites in this common battle against spam but once that happens, spam would no longer have a place on the internet.
