Spammers are not sure if they should fear or relish KnujOn’s annual top 10 list of spam friendly registrars. On the one hand, they are learning right away whose system is easiest to crack. On the other hand, if they are already transmitting their pollution via one of these companies, they may soon be busted.
KnujOn is an anti-spam organization which researches domains to seek out spammers and other illicit internet activity. When comparing the list from last year to the current list, KunjOn was happy to find that many companies have straightened out their act and have fallen from the list. But, unfortunately new names are always there to fill their spots. A few surprises found their way to the list of shame this year including the well known Network Solutions and the sister company of GoDaddy, Wild West.
Because spammers tend to register many different domain names with a registrar in hopes of remaining undetected by antispam software, they can actually be a domain name’s biggest customer. It is really up the registrars to do their best to keep spammers out of their databases. Despite the profits they can obtain from these multiple domain name spamming customers, they must do their part to keep the internet a place free from frauds and spammers.
Some registrars are more assertive than others when addressing reports of malevolent activity on their domains. Some may take a more leisurely pace when following up with such reports. KnujOn publishes the reports in order to bring to the public spotlight which registrars need to take a closer look at their clientele.
So who is on the list this year? The number one spot goes to a registrar in China named Xinnet.com. Over 3 million spam emails have been traced back to Xinnet. They have had so many difficulties, it has been suggested that the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) should warn them that they could lose their accreditation.
Beijing Innovative Networks and Joker are two companies that have previously found themselves on KnujOn’s report, but after a threat from ICANN, have since straightened up their act.
This is KnujOn’s complete list.
