#1: The waste of time. ISPs are constantly updating their blacklists and spam filters, software companies are working around the clock to develop more sophisticated anti-spam applications like Perimetec – but of course even this isn’t enough. In the end, you are left dealing with the spam that is able to evade these measures, and this takes time out of your day, as well.
#2: The hassle. Because you may be in a hurry to deal with all of the spam piling up in your inbox, you may miss out some messages that are actually important.
#3: The wasted broadband. For those web users who don’t have the luxury of high-speed internet, spam messages can cause lengthy load times when trying to check your inbox; and don’t forget the amount of space spam takes up in your inbox, regardless of the speed of your internet connection.
#4: A lot of spam emails are sexually explicit or otherwise offensive.
#5: Some may harm your computer. Many spam messages contain harmful file attachments, hidden malicious code, or even a virus.
#6: Some can cost you money. Apart from the cost to repair any damage that may be caused on account of malicious code or viruses due to spam messages, you’ll also have to worry about falling victim to identity theft or a number of other online crimes.
#7: Certain forms of spam are outright illegal. Many spam messages are nothing more than scams aimed at talking you out of your own cash.
#8: Clever messages that appear to be real. Some spammers have become quite creative with their spam, and sometimes it is quite difficult to tell them apart from genuine messages.
#9: It comes in excessive amounts. Many of us are receiving tens of thousands of unsolicited commercial e-mails every single day; and many land in our ordinary inbox due to the ineffectiveness of spam blockers.
#10: Kids may be exposed to spam, as well. Whatever type of spam you are receiving, you can be sure that your children who are online receive them as well – including the offensive ones. |
