Blacklist services

Spam is undoubtedly one of the most disliked aspects of the internet. These junk emails have been around since the early days of the digital world. While most of these vowge for products that we do not need, there are also some that are downright malicious and can damage your computer. With the advent of technology there have been a number of ways to halt the growth of spam. There are anti spam software applications, filters and other technologies available to put an end to the menace of spam. Using blacklists is one of the most effective ways to prevent spam from reaching your inbox.

A blacklist contains emails addresses of people who you do not trust, as well as addresses that are known for spamming. On the other hand, a whitelist consists of email senders that you would like to receive emails from. It is required that blacklists be configured as well as administered on the server, network, or ISP level. If, however, there is no such access, you can choose email services of companies that take care of the blacklisting for you.

Blacklists consist of a list of open relay mail servers (servers which allow anonymous internet users to blast messages to a large group of people) as well as servers known to push spam. The list is used to filter emails that originate from unwanted sources. The sender of the email will receive a mailer daemon or a bounce message telling them that the email was not delivered. Most of the times, the senders are not aware that their server is on open relay and has been blacklisted. They realize this only when they are trying to send emails to someone who uses a blacklist to filter the mails. This stops the spammers from sending emails from that server.

Blacklists, when used in bad faith carry a high possibility of false positives. At times, emails that have been sent with good intentions might land innocent senders and the respective servers the senders were using on a blacklist. If, however, you are into legitimate email marketing and are suffering due to this you, can do something to close the open relay.
