Let’s face it – spam is a problem for anyone and everyone who is connected to the internet in the 21st century. And it doesn’t matter whether you are just a casual, typical computer user or a software engineer; chances are you have had some sort of problem dealing with spam. One particular group that has been known to have troubles combating spammers are webmasters and website designers.
You don’t typically think about how spam can affect an actual website, as most spam comes to you in the form of an e-mail message. Webmasters that run personal blogs or online forums are the most susceptible when it comes to receiving spam at your website, but there are a number of things you can do to help cut back on the amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail you receive.
#1: If you run an online forum or blog, check your member list. Spam email accounts and usernames are typically quite easy to spot, and many times you can ban them according to their IP address.
#2: If you are giving out your e-mail address account for users of your site (which is quite common) never use a personal account. There are plenty of websites that offer free e-mail accounts available for just this purpose.
#3: Ensure your current anti spam solutions are up-to-date. Because spammers are constantly changing tactics and implementing brand new ones, you’ll need to make sure that your email spam filters are always updated. |
