Spam is an issue that affects every single computer user in the 21st century. Of course there have been plenty of measures taken in an attempt to stop or slow down professional spammers, and there have even been a number of lawsuits filed against known spammers. In the end, however, they’ll just continue to evolve and change their spamming techniques just as fast as software developers can find a way to stop them. However, having adequate spam protection on your computer is one thing – it is equally important that you have proper virus protection installed, as well.
Many people don’t realize this, but spam email can actually harm your computer. Many unsolicited commercial e-mails include file attachments which are in reality nothing more than a virus. Opening these attachments may allow a virus to infect your computer immediately, and without your knowledge; unless of course you have virus protection in place to back up your spam protection.
Some forms of spam may also contain malicious codes written into the body of the e-mail itself. While this isn’t technically considered a virus, it can be just as harmful as one. Thankfully, many anti-virus programs on the market today protect against these threats too, but adding additional protection in the form of spam filters will better ensure the safety of your computer.
Additionally, you might even receive a virus from a friend and not even know it. Most computer users don’t realize that if you open a message that was sent from an infected computer that you are putting your own computer at risk. Proper virus protection, however, will solve this issue. |
