Srizbi Spam Plays on Social Susceptibility

Srizbi Spam Plays on Social Susceptibility

June 03, 2008

The Srizbi botnet, accounting for 45% of all recent spam messages, has triggered a malicious outbreak. The message addresses the recipient by his or her name and is said to contain a link to a naked video file of the user. Upon clicking on the URL, the victim’s computer becomes infiltrated. A hosted email protection service such as that offered by Perimetec Solutions and Barracuda Networks could dramatically reduce the danger posed to a computer unequipped with an effective anti spam email filter. By taking advantage of vulnerable recipients, the spammers infect countless hard drives with malware. Researchers cite Srizbi as the largest botnet in the world with 315,000 bots capable of sending 60 billion emails a day. Storm is another infamous botnet that has hijacked 85,000 systems and arranged 35,000 of them to distribute spam.
Perimetec Solutions, in collaboration with Barracuda Networks, provides corporate networks with the anti-spam and web security they need by eliminating phishing attacks, data theft and viruses at affordable prices.
