With all of the spam email being sent on a daily basis online, and with no end in sight, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Domain Name Service operators have had no choice but to take some extreme measures in the fight against spam. While these anti spam filters and anti-spam algorithms are constantly evolving and being updated, they are by no means perfect. In fact, some of the internet’s largest spam filters and domain name blacklists are filled with mistakes. Some of the more commonly false-positives are actually genuine marketing and press companies; and unfortunately this means that your company’s press release may be susceptible to spam blockers, filters, or the dreaded blacklist.
There are some steps you can take on your end, however, when preparing a press release for the World Wide Web. These techniques apply whether you are sending your press release out through e-mail or even if you are publishing it on the web for the general public.
First of all, make sure that your company’s actual e-mail address is clearly visible from the start; avoid using generic or free e-mail accounts as your press release will look much more authentic coming from your own domain. You’ll also want to make sure that your document is clearly labeled as a press release; this should be done in the subject line of an e-mail or at the beginning of a web page release. Finally, avoid using generic words, or phrases that are vague. Spam blockers tend to pick up on messages like this and incorrectly mark them as spam. |
