Spam is everywhere in the 21st century – of course it can be seen clogging up your e-mail account’s inbox and inside pop-up advertisements online, but now it is being seen on social networking sites and even file-sharing sites such as YouTube. And if improvements aren’t made to the anti spam software used by YouTube, it won’t be long before this popular and innovative site becomes nothing more than the next spammer’s paradise.
Spammers are using several different methods in order to spread their spam through the YouTube pages. These techniques include:
- Placing videos that are nothing more than an advertisement for their website, product, or service
- Making comments to other user’s videos that are actually spam messages in disguise
- Sending out bulk messages directly to the inboxes of YouTube users
- Scanning user profiles for personal e-mail addresses in order to collect them and sell or spam them later on
As you can see, something definitely needs to be done to try and put an end to YouTube spam before it is too late. Youtube needs to implement a full scale and comprehensive anti spam solution before it is too late. In the end simply beefing up their anti spam filters may not be enough however, and YouTube may very well have to take additional anti-spam measures beyond installing software. Even as technologically advanced as computers are in this day and age, they just can’t keep up with some of the sly spammers out there today. It just may take a very dedicated, real-life individual (or group of individuals) to better monitor YouTube and the content that is being posted to their site. |
